FIRST: If you are planning to purchase Herbach’s book (The Miracle Letters of T. Rimberg) for gift or for self, do it by Thursday, send us an email and Herbach will send a loving note to whomever the purchase is for, seriously. This is a big week! Stop into to one of our excellent local stores (Common Good Books, or Magers and Quinn, perhaps — they host great events for us). Pop into a Barnes and Noble if it’s on your way home.
Go get it at Amazon if need be! This is a big week. Seriously. Herbach will write you a personal love note. Please let him know.

Sam and Herbach host the Red Stag Block Party on June 14! Featuring excellent music and food!

We are just beginning to do new work. Creative Electric Studios is springing into action for Art-a-Whirl (more on that soon). Projects are in development. Herbach’s book, the Miracle Letters of T. Rimberg is about to be released. Why not join us all at the release party? Here are the details:
Tuesday, April 15, 7pm, The Loft Literary Center, 1011 Washington Avenue South, Minneapolis — FREE
-Ad hoc music by some configuration of the Electric Arc Band.
-A banker’s dozen (10-11) readers reading short short letters of love and hate.
-Me reading sections of the book as profoundly as I can.
-And, thanks so much to Pabst Blue Ribbon — I get teary, a lump in my throat — free beer to those of us over the age of 21 (a beer supporting a book is a beautiful thing — there will be free PBR sweatbands and t-shirts should we get too warm).
-Finally, there will be books available.

C) Brady cleanses with love from below, a new routine.
D) Sam delivers eulogies, a new end.

MiniStories: mnartists’ new Flash Fiction competition

You want to tell a story very fast? This is a way to do it!
mnartists.org is launching miniStories, a quarterly short-short fiction competition coordinated by Electric Arc Radio’s Geoff Herbach (author of The Miracle Letters of T. Rimberg, forthcoming from Three Rivers Press). This new literary series will showcase previously unpublished short stories by Minnesota writers which will be selected by authors, editors, and publishing industry veterans from across the country. Winning stories will be published on mnartists.org and in the e-magazine access+ENGAGE. One grand-prize winning author will be selected from each quarter’s miniStories winners by series coordinator Geoff Herbach to receive a paid commission for a longer-form short story which will be published on mnartists.org. There will be readings at the Ritz Theater in Minneapolis at the end of each quarter’s contest cycle, at which miniStories winners and judges will read their fiction. An anthology collecting the inaugural year’s miniStories winning fiction will be published in April 2009 and available for sale at area bookstores.

Just Three Shows to go!

If you’re a season ticket holder (who bought for $45), we’ll be crediting you one show back. We have to cancel our April 19 show for reasons of giant conflict (weddings and books coming–whoa). The good news, you still have three big opportunities to see Electric Arc Radio at the Woman’s Club. Dark Dark Dark is up next with us. As we reformat the shows for future radio, we are pushing on the edges of acceptable radio behavior to keep things interesting. You have to see it! Our new season at the Woman’s Club Theatre begins on February 2, with five shows between then and April 19. Oh, we have some treasured musical guests. First, we have the excellent Martin Devaney, who already feels like an old friend (it seems like he must have been on the show before, but hasn’t been). On February 16th, we’re joined by Dreamland Faces. Please, just watch this youtube. On March 15th, we’ll be joined by Dark Dark Dark, an incredible sounding plunk-stringed, accordioned, desperately vocalized ensemble. As the season rolls into it’s final stretch, the uncompromising E.L.nO. takes the stage. Have you ever been to a fog-machine filled high school dance in 1979? You’ll soon be there. Mark our words.
It’s going to be an incredible season. Brady Bergeson’s foot has already swollen to three times it’s normal size. The trouble is coming! Click here for all of your ticketing needs (Neighbor tix, Season tix - $45, Individual show tix -$12, Student tix - $8). Brady’s foot is enormous!

Electric Arc Radio kicks off its radio run

On January 6, 2008, the run begins. Tune your dials to 89.3 (or stream here) at 6pm to hear the first of four shows that will air on The Current during January. The first show, “O.K. Commodore,” details in song and story the sadness and joy the housemates experience at having four Commodore 64 computers given to them. The Commodores talk and sing. Special musical guest for the show, which was originally recorded on October 13 at the Woman’s Club Theatre, is Storyhill.
Each Sunday in January at 6pm you can hear a brand new episode of Electric Arc Radio. Other shows include: “The Inexplicable Light Rail”; “Hart to Hart of Darkness”; and “Apocalypso”.

The Owls, Sven Sundgaard and YouTube superstar Tay Zonday highlight season finale

The December 8 season finale was a freakin’ wild one. Not only were we graced by KARE 11 weatherman Sven Sundgaard’s buttery presence, but we had The Owls singing apocalyptic tunes and … yes … Tay Zonday playing God with his powerhouse baritone. Is there any way we can top that line up? Uh huh. We’re going to do it. Look for information about season tickets for the Spring season right here in coming weeks.
